Last night Nicole and I met our dear friend, Angie Bridges, co-owner of Copa Wine Bar in Stone Oak and carpooled down to the San Antonio Zoo to volunteer for their HUGE annual fundraising event, Zoo La-La.  

This isn’t the first time we’ve volunteered  for Copa Wine Bar sponsored events. For 4 years, I participated on Angie’s team at the annual Paella Challenge.Nicole joined our Paella team 2 years ago. When I receive requests for large Paella parties, I often collaborate with Angie.

Showing up last night and just being a little worker bee was a nice break for me from running my business. We just put our heads down and got to work! For about an hour and a half I don’t think Nicole and I even had a chance to look up, except to pass trays of our samples to the front of the booth. Angie had prepared a silky hummus that was plated on a pita wedge, topped with a Mediterranean relish of cucumber, tomato, feta and pepperoncini, and a lemon crema drizzle. Guests at our booth were thrilled with the chilled, lite bites on the hot evening.

Our booth was in between the flamingo exhibits (ooof, they are not food-friendly smelling animals!) and next to the stage where the Spazmatics were performing. I’ve been wanting to see the Spazmatics again. They are such a fun band. I didn’t get to SEE them last night, but I certainly enjoyed the 80s music as we worked.

It’s fun to participate in food-related events around San Antonio. We live in a great city. Tomorrow morning I’m going to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens for their strawberry & lime aromatherapy-based mindfulness event, followed by a culinary demo using the same aromatic essence.
